HEALTH and SAFETYAmalgam Waste Management Canadian Dental Association Recommended Infection Control Practices for Dentistry - CDC (US) Guidelines for Environmental Infection Control in Health Care Settings - CDC (US) Occupational Health & Safety Guidelines Sk Health Guidelines for Potential Exposure to Hepatitis and HIV Proposed Notice Regarding Pollution Prevention Planning in Respect of Mercury Releases from Dental Amalgam Waste On April 18, 2009 Environment Canada published a Proposed Notice link under Part 4 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999) outlining proposed requirements to prepare and implement a pollution prevention plan for mercury releases from dental amalgam waste. The Proposed Notice, published in the Canada Gazette, Part I for a 60 day comment period, targets dental facilities that have not implemented all of the best management practices set out in the “Memorandum of Understanding Respecting the Implementation of the Canada-wide Standard on Mercury for Dental Amalgam Waste” between the Canadian Dental Association and Environment Canada for the voluntary implementation of the Canada-wide Standard on Mercury for Dental Amalgam Waste. After considering comments received during this 60 day comment period, a Final Notice requiring the preparation and implementation of pollution prevention plans for mercury releases from dental amalgam waste will be published in Part I of the Canada Gazette.
